A new season brings new wedding trends, and spring is no exception!
Every year, The Knot’s wedding site editors comb through new weddings trends, and they’ve dubbed 2025 “The Year of Surprises,” with both to-be-weds and their vendor teams keeping weddings fresh by leaning into inventive and experiential ideas to wow their guests.
Surprise Weddings
Under the guise of throwing an engagement party, some couples are pushing the wedding timeline up ever so slightly, while hopefully letting vendors in on the confidential planning. A ONE North Broad couple once hosted a 10th anniversary party to celebrate a decade of dating and then surprised their guests by announcing they had actually gotten married.
Fashion Forward Styles
Guests have become part of the wedding décor, with couples requesting they lean into certain colors and themes that complement their overall vision for the day, from “gold gilded white-tie gala” to “white-tie optional greens and blacks.” The same goes for the wedding party. The tried-and-true colors and silhouettes are being replaced by mix-and-match bridesmaid looks, a trend that allows each person to feel comfortable and authentic. Also, for Gen Zers in particular, sneakers are the new stilettos.
The Branded Wedding
Multiday wedding weekends are becoming more of a branded experience. Custom crests, logos and monograms are just a few ways couples are giving tailored, visual cues to guests. The branded wedding typically begins with the save-the-dates and carries through to the invitations, wedding website, color palette and seating charts. The tightly branded experience signals exclusivity and personalization. Some couples are even adding custom fragrances and crafting stations to the mix, creating a memorable moment for guests.
Next-Level Photo & Video Experiences
Paparazzi-style photos and red carpets are some examples of how wedding photography and videography are evolving. There are less behind-the-scenes shots and perfectly posed images of the past. Couples are now hiring photographers and videographers to capture the “essence” of the event, for instance, slow pan videos featuring entire wedding parties. At ONE North Broad, wedding content creators often take photos and short videos throughout the event, so that couples can get more immediate content from the wedding before professional images are ready.
Tailored Welcomes & Immersive Experiences
Like branded creative touches, the hospitality experience often involves warm welcome parties and immersive events throughout the wedding weekend, from personalized welcome bags to curated activities throughout the weekend, like scavenger hunts, pool parties or museum tours. “Couples want to give their guests an experience and have them feel involved beyond just attending,” according to The Knot. Other interactive entertainment experiences could include a dance performance during the wedding reception or a live painter that creates take-home portraits for guests.
Unexpected Red Theory
Hugely popular in interior design, the Unexpected Red Theory concept states that a look is never complete until a hint of red is injected, according to the wedding website, OneFabDay.com. With this theory currently trending, this year we are sure to see more rich cherry reds, deeper burgundys and warm red accents popping up in wedding and event designs. At ONE North Broad, we’ve seen this burst of color in wedding or bridesmaid dresses, with uplighting in the Grand Ballroom and the use of our fancy “red carpet” to enter or leave the building.
Costume Changes
It used to be a quick bustle; now, it’s at least two outfit changes per wedding, if not more. Couples often say this is another way to convey their heritage or display family heirlooms or personal fashion choices throughout the wedding. “The reception dress is becoming a staple, with many brides opting for shorter, more comfortable styles to allow for easier movement during the dance portion of the evening,” The Knot said.
